John Krasinski’s ‘IF’ Trailer Promises a Wholesome Adventure

If movie poster for the If trailer debut.

If the two A Quiet Place films tell us anything so far, it’s that John Krasinski will put a plethora of heart into everything he makes. The director’s vision is strikingly wholesome, even when characters are dealing with heavy topics and horror as a genre, so it’s only natural that we place our hope in his latest directorial adventure. And while we’re unsure what to expect exactly, the If trailer already looks promising.

If nothing else, Krasinski’s If film is brimming with an exceptional cast, and our queen, Emily Blunt, is among the stellar list of names. It also stars Ryan Reynolds, Cailey Fleming, Steve Carrell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw, Richard Jenkins, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Awkwafina, Vince Vaughn, Sam Rockwell, Matt Damon, and more. It doesn’t even matter what the screenplay looks like because knowing this cast is on board will ensure a joy ride full of invisible friends.

Official Synopsis: A girl who goes through a difficult experience begins to see everyone’s imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up.

Films like If can often be a hit or miss for critics when they don’t decipher who the target audience is, but as for the critics here, sometimes we’re just looking for a good time. And like Wonka turned out to be, the If trailer shows that movies can be fun for the whole family while simultaneously resulting in a delightful little trip down memory lane with actors worth their salt. At the end of the day, a ridiculous trailer is all we need to feel like we’re about to watch something entirely off the rails in order to get out of our own heads.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it needs to be fun. The best movies surprise us the most, and this will likely be one of them, even if it’s imperfect. Plus, again, with Krasinski at the helm, we know we’re guaranteed surprising emotional beats that’ll act as a nostalgic love letter to our childhoods.
