Chloé Zhao’s ‘Eternals’ Teaser is Here and It’s Gorgeously Enamoring

Okay, real talk? I wasn’t as hyped about the Eternals as I am in this very moment. Don’t get me wrong, anything Marvel will always have my heart and attention, and it’ll especially have my attention when Chloé Zhao is directing. But right now, in this moment, my feels are all over the place and I’m suddenly looking forward to this film as much as I’m looking forward to Spider-Man: No Way Home. (Maybe even a little more considering the release date is much sooner.) Will this finally be the film to end my superhero fatigue? We’ll see.

Let’s talk about the trailer, shall we? Skeeter Davis’ “The End of the World” could not have been a more perfect song choice to set the tone and set our hearts ablaze.

The world building with this trailer is just so beautifully stunning, it might be the most surprising part of the trailer and where my excitement is coming from. The essence of humanity is so viscerally evocative, and with Zhao’s enamoring ability to touch on emotions with such depth, I don’t doubt for a moment that there will be a lot of cathartic tears for this film. A lot has changed, both in our world in recent years and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so whatever is to come, it’s clearly going to touch on preserving and protecting humanity.

Feelings, darling readers. So many feelings. I don’t know much about the comics for Eternals, and right now, a part of me is scared to even read anything, so instead, I’m going to stare at these pictures of Gemma Chan and Richard Madden and force you all to stare with me.

FOREHEAD TOUCHING. I don’t know what is happening, but I have one too many feelings about how beautiful they both look and the fact that there’s very clearly something between Ikaris (Madden) and Sersi (Chan) that’s going to tug on my heart strings. And so help me God if something happens to either of them. Let Richard Madden’s character live in a fantasy 2k21. Especially because Kit Harington is in this too and can we just, let them be on the same screen without one of them dying? Thanks.

That final shot of them at the dinner or whatever it is? Kumail Nanjiani’s made my whole week better. Also, calling Steve, Captain Rogers, as opposed to Captain America, who we now know is Sam Wilson? Bless. The chemistry between this entire cast is already so strong and so much fun, I’m hyped. Super, unbelievably hyped.

The last time I felt this way about a teaser (going into a film I didn’t know much about) was Star Wars’ Rogue One, and it turned out to be one of the best, most moving films of the year and all time favorite too. So yes, I have high, high hopes.

Watch the trailer below and scream about all your thoughts with me.
