President Joe Biden, Madam Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Restoration of Hope in America

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris

America is headed towards healing—there’s hope again. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are no longer President-elects, they are the President and (first ever) Madam Vice President. Today is a momentous day in the United States, and we couldn’t be happier about it.

We couldn’t be happier about the fact that while this country is deeply corrupt and there’s a great amount of work to be done to restore it, it will be led by people who genuinely care. It will be led by an administration that’s putting in the effort to make matters right, to rebuild, to instill hope again, and to set up a better future for all Americans. And inadvertently, the rest of the world. So much depends on how well America does.

The past four years have been dark—they’ve been grim and when we sat in our offices crying, this was the reason why. We hate to have been right, but we’re glad to be feeling differently this time around. It’s not going to be easy, but it will be okay. It will be okay because Biden and Harris care. It will be okay because as they are inaugurated into office, they’re vowing to protect this country based on the promises they have made. WWe are headed towards healing this country from the hatred that’s been spread every single day.

But today is also an incredibly historic day.

Kamala Harris for President

Little girls everywhere got to watch Madam Vice President Kamala Harris take her oath and believe in their hearts that one day, they could stand there, too. Kamala Harris is not only the first female Vice President, but the first Black and South Asian. What a time to be alive. What a moment to live through. Little girls and grown women watched this historic moment and it’s something we will tell our children about.

It’s something we will see in future textbooks. And little girls are going to believe that they can grow up to be women who deserve to speak. “I am speaking.” We’ll never stop thinking of that or respecting it. We’ll never stop commending her for correcting people when they mispronounce her name. Women deserve to have their voices heard and their ideas respected—women deserve to have their dreams come true. Women deserve to lead. Women deserve to be heard. Women deserve great things, and in this moment, women are getting it.

Our First Lady Dr. Jill Biden cares about education—she cares about love, she cares about fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves, and she cares about people. She has worked hard, endured, and she’s a woman who’s going to lead by example.

To have people that we respect, people who’ve fought to be where they are is how it should have always been in the White House. Yesterday (19 January 2021) Biden and Harris along with their spouses and every single American with a heart chose to honor the 400,000 people who died from Covid-19. They chose to acknowledge that every human life is important and that a global pandemic should never have gotten this out of hand. They chose to lead by example in showcasing that they care, that their hearts are open, and you know what, we know damn well that politicians are corrupt. We aren’t so naïve to believe that they’re heroes, but we are hopeful because compassion matters. Compassion is necessary. Americans had hope with the Obamas in office, but that all came crashing down after the second term ended.

And today, we are more desperate for hope than ever. Today, while the world won’t magically change right away, we are filled with the hope that it can—we are filled with the certainty that grace and compassion will occupy the grounds of the White House again. We are filled with hope that women have a place in office. We are filled with the hope that women will no longer be silenced. We are filled with the hope that when women speak, people will listen. And that includes women like Amanda Gorman whose speech is the best thing we’ve watched in a long, long time!

We have never been shy of our faith in Jesus Christ here at Marvelous Geeks. We have been outspoken about it. And we have also been outspoken about inclusivity. We have been outspoken about love. Thus, more than anything, right now for us, the most important detail in all this is that when President Joe Biden quotes the Bible, we believe him. When this administration says God bless America, we know they mean it with their whole hearts. To know that we have a President who isn’t using God’s name in vain but out of genuine faith and compassion for humanity is the greatest gift at this moment. This is how it should have always been–respectful, dignified, and driven by love. Christ teaches us to love above all things, and today, love has returned to this country.
