On December 10, 2020 Disney held Investor Day and pulled an Oprah Winfrey giving everyone and everything a car a series or a movie. Twitter’s been exploding for a few hours now and we have no idea how to keep up or how to fit all this in one place. So we’ve decided to instead bring in the things we’re most excited for–which might end up being just about everything.
Marvel
Falcon and Winter Soldier
The only thing about Falcon Winter Soldier, we don’t love is the fact that it’s not called Captain America Winter Soldier. Because Sam Wilson is our Captain now, and he deserves the rightful title everywhere. Nevertheless, we can’t wait for this one either and we’ve now got a premiere date for March 2021 on Disney Plus!
Loki
Unless you’re new here, you know how much everyone at Marvelous Geeks adores Loki! And if you’ve listened to our podcasts then you know we’ve been itching for this series since it was announced we’d get it. We’ve not got a premiere date and a trailer and Christmas has officially come. Let the countdown begin.
Wanda Vision
Wanda Vision is coming to Disney please so soon, it’s hard to believe it’s January 15 is right around the corner. We’ve been looking forward to what looks like will be Disney’s most ridiculous comedy/something actually really serious we don’t even know how to describe it, but we know we’re going to love it. You know what, we’re not even going to bother with grammar where that sentence is concerned because what even is this show going to be, we have no idea. We just know, we can’t freaking wait.
WHAT IF…?
This is another series we knew was coming but we just got a trailer featuring our best girl Peggy Carter as the Super Soldier. Let that sink in for a moment. Margaret “Peggy” Carter will pick up the shield and be the Captain America as we know it and even its for a single episode, it’s something we will love and cherish, as will little girls all over the world. WHAT IF…? is coming to Disney Plus Summer 2021.
Among these TV shows Disney announced that Ryan Coogler will continue to develop Black Panther II, and the late Chadwick Boseman will not be recast, instead the film will explore all the other characters who’ve been established in the first one. We’re entirely for this decision as Boseman’s shoes will be impossible to fill, and we frankly don’t want to see anyone else as the Black Panther–he remains in our memory as the superior to all, and this decision is perfect for the sequel. Captain Marvel II was announced to premiere in theaters on November 11 2022. The film will directed by Nia DaCosta and joining the cast are recently announced Ms. Marvel, Iman Vellani, and Monica Rambeau played by WandaVision’s Teyonah Parris.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Disney took so long to announce that we’d be getting another Ant-Man movie we got nervous, but stay calm, everybody. It’s finally happening. We don’t have an official release day and we still don’t understand why Cassie Lang needed to be recast again, but we love Scott Lang and his crew so we’re excited regardless. And that title sequence, oof.
We don’t have too much interest in the Hawkeye film, but with Florence Pugh and Hailee Steinfeld having bigger roles, we’re absolutely into it now!
Coming exclusively to @DisneyPlus is Hocus Pocus 2, the spooky sequel to the 1993 Halloween classic!
Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Now this is a cast and a movie we can’t wait for. Shang-Chi has wrapped filming and is officially set to premiere on July 9, 2021. We’ll be there opening day hoping all goes well in the world.
She-Hulk
She-Hulk is coming and the incomparable Tatiana Maslany will portray Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk. Tim Roth returns as the Abomination and the Hulk himself, Mark Ruffalo will also appear in the series. Directed Kat Coiro and Anu Valia, this is another series we can’t wait for.
Really, there’s so much we can’t keep up, but these are on top of our list.
Star Wars
Obi-Wan Kenobi
The series is back in production with Ewan McGregor reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi and we just got word that Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker. Hold the phones. Chill out. We’re into it.
Andor
Cassian Andor is a treasure and we’ve been wanting more on the Rogue One characters for as long as we remember now. Diego Luna’s performance is among the few harrowing performances that have stuck with us from day one, and we can’t wait for his series to debut. Andor is anticipated for 2022 on Disney Plus.
Ahsoka
We’re not new to Star Wars, but we are new to Clone Wars, and the first introduction of Ahsoka we got to see was on The Mandalorian’s fifth episode of the second season titled “Chapter 13.” Rosario Dawson is all we know as Ahsoka and we’re excited for what this series could have in store. P.S. voice of Clone Wars‘ Ahsoka Ashley Eckstein has an incredible book titled It’s Your Universe and if you’ve yet to read it, get on it stat. It’s a good one and we love it. As much as we love all the geeky merch from Her Universe.
Willow
We know we’re very late to this party, but we watched the original Willow just last year when a coworker recommended it to me and what an absolute delight of an adventure it was! This could be a hit or miss, but nevertheless we’re intrigued to check it out and can’t wait to see what it will have in store.
Disney Animated Series and Live Action Movies

So few Disney originals deserve a series and all four of these are among those. A series solely on Disney’s first Black Princess? Please and thank you. The adorable Baymax? Here for it. Moana is everything female empowerment can be and we can’t wait for it. Zootopia is the underrated gem we can never stop watching and an entire series based on it is more than we could’ve hoped for.
The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid cast is the cast we’re most excited about. It’s starring Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Awkwafina, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Melissa McCarthy & Javier Bardem. Directed by Rob Marshall, the film will feature music from the animated original and new additions by Alan Menken + Lin-Manuel Miranda. Hearing Diggs as Sebastian is going to be the most delightfully chaotic thing to ever happen to Disney and I’m counting down the hours.
Finally Chris Evans will be voicing Buzz, the Space Ranger the toy is based on and that’s something I’m surprisingly looking forward to.
What are you looking forward to most? Scale of 1 to a 100, how overwhelmed are you?
