Papa Pope still holds all the cards…kill cards that is.
Episode Summary: Much of this week’s episode was focused on tracking down Rowan. But Olivia still had the time to take on one more case, the leaked photos of Cyrus and Michael.
Review | Analysis: We’re only nine episodes into this season and what have we learned? No matter what Rowan always has the upper hand. The good people can never win it seems like. While Olivia tried to track her father down, she decided to add on one more crisis. Elizabeth leaked the photos of Cyrus and Michael.
But before we get to that, let’s first chat about the return of none other than….Mama Pope! She was found in the same hole where Huck and Jake were held by obvi, Rowan. Maya Lewis didn’t offer much info about her hubby, but she did have some pretty good lines — “look around boo” and “girl, you need to move on.”
Quinn finally got a hold of Olivia to inform her that Kubiak was dead and had been working with Elizabeth and her lover, the Veep Mr. Andrew Nichols. Their motives became pretty clear over the course of the episode. Basically, they were pushing Fitz to go to war with West Angola following that horrible terrorist attack that Andrew was targeted. But, in true Scandal fashion, it turns out that they were behind the attack all along. Really?!
This whole drama-rama between Huck and Quinn’s lives has become something! Huck’s family, well wife, doesn’t believe that he’s actually a spy and Quinn realizes that Rowan is trying to erase any trace of B613 and that she’s in danger of getting killed. By whom you ask? Charlie, obviously! She tracks him down and finds out that he has been ordered to kill her, but instead he gives Huck the B613 files he needed to convince his wife that his spy story is the truth.
Meanwhile, Rowan’s laying low, we’re assuming in a B613 safe house, but it turns out that he was actually in Olivia’s apartment, casually uncorking wine and listening to Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life.” The two shared one of their trademark exchanges of run-on sentences. Olivia reached for a gun that Rowan left on purpose near her and it proved to be a test from him. The gun ended up being unloaded, but Papa Pope learned that his daughter was willing to kill him. He left her with this: “No matter how hard you try to deny it, you will miss me when I’m gone.”
Back to the leaked photos of Cy and Michael. Despite the nerves Liv was dealing with from her father, she managed to come up with a great solution — the two “couple” tying the knot! At first, Cyrus refused (naturally), and instead offers to resign which Fitz accepts in a way. What?!
By the end of the episode, Olivia did what anyone under the pressure would. Dance with Jake! This scene, expertly paired with Stevie Wonder’s carefree “Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing,” led us to the winter finale cliffhanger. While dancing, Olivia tells Jake that she wanted both him and Ftiz and that she chooses…herself! “You can dance with me or you can get off my dance floor.” So what does Jake do? Leave for like a second to only come back with blankets and Olivia disappearing. We find out from Ftiz that Olivia has been kidnapped, but by whom?
We’re going to have to wait a pretty long time, January 29th to be exact, until we get our answer. So until then, let us know what you thought of this episode!
