ALS Awareness + #IceBucketChallenge

Hello beautiful people,
as you’ve all seen by now, the #IceBucketChallenge your newsfeed has been comprised with (including your favorite Hollywood stars) was meant to spread awareness on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. ALS is “a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons  die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.Read More

Social Networking can at times be exhausting, unsafe, and problematic, but if there’s one thing it’s incredibly phenomenal for it’s spreading awareness. A month ago, not many were asking questions about ALS – some didn’t even know what it was. Today, the #IceBucketChallenge has not only raised awareness, but 53.3 million and counting.

Educate yourselves, get involved, and donate.
